Everything works absolutely fine right now, but after talking to several microsoft support reps, I was told that both my computer and my brother's laptop could have their operating systems deactivated at any time.

I use my computer for work and school right now, and it would be very inconvenient if it randomly got deactivated one day. Microsoft says the only way to deactivate windows 7 on my brother's laptop is to install/activate an OS with a different product key.
My questions are these:
Is there any other way to deactivate windows 7 on my brothers laptop? (a free way)
Is microsoft lying to me? I find it weird that the computers were not instantly deactivated, and it would make sense that microsoft is just telling me this so I go out and buy another OS.
Any help?
